Axopar Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Axopar of Finland has been building boats with a distinctive stepped hull and outboard propulsion since 2014, fast, seaworthy and, within a few years, very widespread in northern Europe. The combination of high speed and outboard determines what matters in the policy.
On Axopar boats the engine output is what drives the premium, often with twin engines. Both engines must be listed in the policy with their output and serial number; in the event of theft this entry decides whether only the hull or the propulsion as well is covered. Theft of outboards is the most frequent type of claim for this class of boat in Baltic harbours; for a fitted tracker we grant a ten percent discount on the hull insurance.
On fast boats full hull cover is not an option but the basis. Grounding at cruising speed, an impact against floating debris, a collision in a narrow fairway: all cases that only all-risks cover carries. Limited hull cover knows fire, storm, lightning, earthquake and theft of the entire boat, none of these cases.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Do both outboards have to be listed in the policy?
Yes, each one with its output and serial number. Without these details the hull insurance covers only the hull in the event of theft.
Is limited hull cover enough for a fast boat?
No. Grounding, collision and an impact against floating debris are carried only by full hull cover as all-risks cover, and those are precisely the typical losses at cruising speed.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
