Worth knowing
Baja Marine; cover, cost and conditions
The sports boats and offshore models from Baja Marine in the USA were built between 1990 and 2015, and since then they have been changing hands on the used market. It is precisely with a boat that is no longer in production that the agreed value of the full hull cover proves its worth: the agreed sum is binding in the event of a claim, compensation is paid with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), and in the Premium tariff there is no age limit.
Once production has ended, parts become scarce, which drives up repair costs and makes a realistic sum insured all the more important. The model range went from seven to twelve metres; our own portfolio already includes a 232, a 25 Outlaw, a 30 Outlaw, a Force 250 and an H2X. So check regularly whether the agreed value still matches the replacement value.
What counts for the premium is not the name Baja, but the type of boat, the value, the year of construction, the engine output and the cruising range. Third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros forms the basis, and the hull cover applies with no time window and no night clause, including in winter storage, during craning and while in transit.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Baja Marine has not built boats since 2015. What does that mean for my hull insurance?
Parts become scarce and repairs more expensive. With the agreed value, the value of your boat is set out bindingly, compensation is paid with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), and in the Premium tariff there is no age limit for the year of construction.
Is an Outlaw rated differently because it is designed as an offshore model?
The brand itself does not affect the premium. What matters is the type of boat, the value, the year of construction, the engine output and the cruising range. A 25 Outlaw and a 30 Outlaw are already insured in our own portfolio.

Series by Baja Marine, with value and cover
Baja 242 / 278 Islander is a motorboat from Baja Marine (the USA), built from 1990 to 2015, and today changes hands at between €25,000 and €90,000.
Baja 302 / 405 Outlaw is a motor yacht from Baja Marine (the USA), built from 1995 to 2015, and today changes hands at between €60,000 and €220,000.
Baja 232 / Force 250 is a motorboat from Baja Marine (the USA), built from 1990 to 2010, and today changes hands at between €10,000 and €34,000.
Baja Outlaw 25 / 30 is a motorboat from Baja Marine (the USA), built from 1995 to 2015, and today changes hands at between €18,000 and €62,000.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
