Bertram builds offshore fishing boats in Florida, and the Bertram 31 of 1961 is the boat that established the deep V hull form in sports boat construction. Well preserved 31s are sought after classics today with stable values; the current Convertible models between 12 and 17 metres are top class sportfishers. Both groups need an agreed value, but for different reasons.
With the classic, the value lies in the state of preservation and in the restoration; without a survey and an agreed value, hull insurance pays practically nothing in the event of a total loss. With the modern Convertible it lies in the equipment: tower, outriggers, radar, livewell, fighting chair. This equipment reaches six figure sums and belongs separately in the sum insured, with technical equipment and electronics as their own items.
