Worth knowing
Copino; cover, cost and conditions
In Spain, from the eighties into the two-thousands, Copino built GRP motor yachts between 8 and 12 metres, solid Mediterranean yachts with inboard diesel engines that are still a common sight in Spanish marinas. The brand no longer produces, the boats keep sailing, and yard-specific parts come from the second-hand market or are made to order.
For yachts of this age at a Mediterranean berth, two things matter: the condition of the skin fittings below the waterline and the mooring during the storm season. A burst cooling water hose will sink the yacht at the pontoon, and that is covered by full hull cover, not by limited hull cover. Check hoses and clamps every year and have an automatic bilge pump with its own battery circuit fitted.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can I insure a boat from a Spanish yard that has been wound up?
Yes, the yard does not decide whether a boat can be insured. What matters is an agreed value, because yard-specific spare parts are more difficult to obtain.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for motor yachts is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
