The boats from the De Jong yard appear under several names: Braband and Brabant, Rijo Kruiser, Marne Kruiser, Verano, Duet Fleet, plus builds without a model range designation. In most cases the same design is meant, a Dutch steel cruiser for canals and inland lakes. For the policy the spelling is secondary: what matters is length, year of construction, value, engine output and cruising range. Even so, enter the designation exactly as it appears on the boat and in the papers, because that saves the question of identification in the event of a claim.
Steel is forgiving in a claim: a dent can be straightened, a crack welded, and the density of workshops in the Netherlands and northern Germany is high. The downside is corrosion, and that is a matter of maintenance. Gradual electrolysis on the hull is wear and tear and is covered by no hull insurance, whereas a leak after a collision is a clear claim. Check the anodes annually and use a clean shore power connection with an isolating transformer, and that is the whole of the precaution needed.
On boats from the sixties and seventies a considerable part of the value lies in the interior fit-out and in retrofitted equipment, not in the hull. An agreed value that only rates the steel leaves the boat significantly underinsured. Agree the replacement value of the entire boat as an agreed value and adjust it after every refit, which with us can be done informally.
