Glastron; cover, cost and conditions
Glastron is one of the oldest names in American GRP boatbuilding and helped shape the bowrider design. Today GT and GTS models run as trailer boats in the 5 to 7 metre range. For insurance purposes two age classes have to be distinguished: current production boats with spare parts available, and the classics of the sixties and seventies, whose value depends on their state of preservation and which require a valuation report.
With a Glastron classic the agreed value is the decisive instrument. A cleanly restored hull with its original engine is a collector's item that would be worth practically nothing at current market value, but a considerable amount at replacement value. We record the value from the report as the agreed value; in the event of a claim it is paid out, not reduced. Have the report renewed after every major stage of restoration.
Glastron's model designations are a science of their own: in the seventies the boats ran as the SSV and V range with additions such as Bayflite, Crestflite, Futura and Laraya, in the eighties and nineties Sierra, Aventura, Spirit and Gulfstream were added, later GS, SX, MX, SE, GT, GTS and GX. For insurance the designation is secondary: what matters is length, year of construction, value, engine power and cruising range. Enter the exact designation all the same, as it helps with determining the value and with identification in the event of a claim.

How do I insure a restored Glastron from the seventies?
Through an agreed value based on a valuation report. Without a report the current market value applies, and with a fifty-year-old hull that is far below what you have actually invested.
My Sierra 177 SL is not on the list, can it still be insured?
Yes. Over more than fifty years Glastron has used several hundred model designations, SSV, V range, Sierra, Aventura, GS, SX, GT and GX.
