Worth knowing
JP Australia; cover, cost and conditions
JP Australia builds windsurf and SUP boards that grew out of the collaboration with windsurfer Jason Polakow, wave and freeride boards for competition as well as SUP boards for leisure and touring. The wave boards are built for hard conditions and are ridden accordingly.
With wave boards, breakage in the surf is the typical claim. A board that breaks in a wave is a single event and is covered under full hull cover, unlike delamination, which develops over time. For a board in the four-figure range, hull insurance is worthwhile; for an inflatable SUP in the three-figure range, personal accident cover is the more sensible product.
For wave riders, the cruising range is the point that is easily overlooked. If you travel to Fuerteventura, Cape Verde or Maui, you need the matching cruising range level; the European levels are not sufficient. Register the trip in advance; the extension is available at low cost for a limited period. The rig belongs in the application as accessories.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is breakage in the surf covered?
Yes, under full hull cover, that is a single event. Delamination that develops over time is material fatigue and is not covered.
Do I need an extension for Maui?
Yes, the worldwide level. It is inexpensive for a limited period, register the trip before departure.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
No licence required; muscle-powered craft are licence-free, federal waterways included.
Registration
No registration required. Some waters do ask for a local permit or sticker before you launch.
Waters
Inland lakes, rivers and the coast, mind nature-reserve rules; many stretches are closed seasonally.
Equipment
Buoyancy aid or lifejacket, buoyancy bags in the boat, spraydeck, a waterproof case for phone and papers, a whistle.
Cruising range
The agreed cruising range is stated in the policy and can be extended for a single trip at any time.
Weather
Offshore wind is the main risk: it carries you away from the bank and makes the return hard. Check wind direction and the gust forecast before you launch.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.

On paddle craft theft and transit damage are the rule, collisions the exception.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
