Malibu Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Malibu builds wakeboard and water-ski boats in Tennessee and introduced Surf Gate, a system that moves the wave from one side to the other at the touch of a button. The boats are equipped to a high standard, with towers, speaker systems and displays, equipment that carries a considerable part of the value and belongs in the sum insured separately, not in the value of the boat.
On wake boats the tower is the place where damage arises that nobody allows for: hitting a bridge, knocking it in winter storage, storm damage to the stretched cover. The tower with speakers, lighting and board racks costs a five-figure sum. List it under technical equipment, then in the event of a claim it is a demonstrable part of the insured value, and the agreed value rests on a realistic basis.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Are the tower, sound system and board racks covered as well?
Yes, as technical equipment, state their value separately in the accessories group. Anything not listed there is not part of the insured value in the event of a claim.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
