Neptun boat trailers have been on the German market for decades and are correspondingly often found as used trailers under older boats. With a used trailer, two things matter more than the brand: the age of the tyres and the condition of the brake system.
Trailer tyres age standing still, not while driving. A trailer that stands for ten months of the year has, after six years, tyres with visible tread and a porous sidewall, and a blowout at a hundred kilometres an hour damages boat and trailer at the same time. This kind of damage is a case where the age of the tyres is asked about. Replace them by date, not by tread.
In our boat policy the trailer is included at no extra premium if it is listed in the application with manufacturer, payload and chassis number. It is covered as a material asset and while the boat is transported by suitable means; wear and tear, corrosion and the consequences of neglected maintenance are not covered. On an older trailer, the annual check of bearings, brakes and lights is the cheapest insurance there is.

When do I have to replace trailer tyres?
By date, not by tread, six years are a practical limit. Tyres age standing still, and a blowout hits boat and trailer at the same time.
