Nimbus Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Nimbus of Gothenburg builds boats for everyday Scandinavian use, tenders, commuters and cabin boats, often used all year round. The construction is designed for rough weather and archipelago waters.
Anyone who goes out all year round or leaves the boat in the water should not take a seasonal policy: cover from 1 April to 31 October leaves open precisely the months in which storm damage occurs. In the archipelago, grounding is the typical claim, covered only under full hull cover, because limited hull cover recognises named perils only.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
All-year or seasonal cover?
With year-round use or a berth in the water, all-year cover. The seasonal policy lowers the premium but leaves the storm months uncovered.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
