Nordship Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Nordship builds deck saloon yachts of between 11 and 15 metres in Denmark, yachts with a saloon at deck level, high-quality solid wood joinery and the workmanship typical of Danish yards. They are cruising yachts for the Baltic and beyond, built in small numbers.
The deck saloon brings with it one point that aft-cockpit yachts do not have: large window areas. They are the most vulnerable place in hail and when green water comes over the deck, and a broken window at sea is an event that quickly leads to water ingress. Hail is covered by limited hull cover, water ingress and sinking only by full hull cover. On a deck saloon yacht, having storm shutters on board is not superfluous.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is damage to the deck saloon windows covered?
In the case of damage from an event, yes: hail under limited hull cover, breakage from green water including consequential damage under full hull cover. Keep storm shutters on board.

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
