Outremer Yachting; cover, cost and conditions
In La Grande-Motte, Outremer builds blue-water catamarans for owners who actually set off: circumnavigations, trade wind routes, high latitudes. That shapes the policy more than the design does. With an Outremer the question is not whether the cruising range is extended, but which route and which season. We underwrite worldwide, but for that we need a route plan, the size of the crew and the experience of the skipper.
The second point is the equipment, which on a long-distance cruising boat accounts for a considerable share of the value. Watermaker, generator, solar system, wind generator, satellite communication, life raft, spare sails: on an Outremer this easily adds up to six-figure sums. These values belong individually in the application, not lumped into the boat value. Only then are they replaced in full in the event of a total loss and not reduced pro rata.
For hull insurance on long-distance cruising, what happens in remote areas matters most. A repair in French Polynesia costs a multiple of the same work in Europe, and spare parts have to be flown in. In the Premium tariff we bear salvage and wreck removal costs without a fixed upper limit, which on a catamaran of this size is not a theoretical point. Also check the inclusion of yard trips and deliveries with an outside crew.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can a circumnavigation with an Outremer be insured?
Yes, with a worldwide cruising range. We need the route, the schedule, the crew and the skipper's qualification, and then the cover is in place before you cast off.
How do I insure the long-distance cruising equipment?
Individually, as technical equipment and electronics in the application, not lumped into the boat value. That way it is replaced in full in the event of a claim.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
