Passport Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Two model ranges for long passages are on record, the Passport 40 / 47 from 1980 to 2010 and the Passport 515 / 545 from 1995 to 2015, cruising yachts between 12 and 17 metres. Anyone sailing far calls at foreign ports. You receive the international certificate of insurance automatically in ten languages.
The yachts were built to designs by Robert Perry and are laid out for longer distances. For the policy this means above all that the cruising range should be settled from the outset, because alongside type of boat, value, year of construction and sail area it is one of the premium factors. If you extend your sailing area, we adjust the policy.
Both production periods are over, and the yachts change hands second-hand today. We insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners and record the value as an agreed value. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros the policy is taken out online.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Do I need separate proof of cover for foreign ports?
The international certificate of insurance is enclosed automatically in ten languages. You do not have to request it separately and can present it at the harbour office.
How is a cruising yacht for long passages classified?
By type of boat, value, year of construction, sail area and cruising range. The sailing area in particular matters here, because it describes the geographical scope of the cover.

Series by Passport Yachts, with value and cover
Passport 40 / 47 is a sailing yacht from Passport Yachts (TW), built from 1980 to 2010, and today changes hands at between €90,000 and €290,000.
Passport 515 / 545 is a sailing yacht from Passport Yachts (TW), built from 1995 to 2015, and today changes hands at between €290,000 and €690,000.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
