Worth knowing
Saffier Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Saffier builds daysailers between 7 and 11 metres in Ijmuiden, fast and easily sailed yachts with a large cockpit and a minimal interior, intended for day trips under sail. It is a category of its own: sailing as an experience, not as a journey.
With daysailers the value lies in the hull, in the rig and in the equipment on deck, winches, fittings, sails. The interior fit-out is largely absent, which settles the subject of water damage in the saloon. What remains is rig damage, grounding, theft of equipment and transport, because many of these yachts can be trailered. Transports with suitable means of transport are covered, and the trailer belongs in the sum with its own value.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What is important with a daysailer in insurance terms?
The rig, the fittings and the sail wardrobe make up the value, so list them separately as technical equipment. With trailerable models the trailer belongs in the sum.

Series by Saffier, with value and cover
Saffier SE 27 / SE 33 is a sailing boat from Saffier (the Netherlands), built since 2010, and today changes hands at between €90,000 and €260,000.
Saffier SL 46 is a sailing yacht from Saffier (the Netherlands), built since 2018, and today changes hands at between €420,000 and €780,000.
Se 24 / 33 / 37 is a sailing yacht from Saffier (the Netherlands), built since 2005, and today changes hands at between €70,000 and €390,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
