Saga Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Saga builds Norwegian cabin boats for waters where wind and waves are part of everyday life. Anyone sailing them on the North Sea or the Baltic should read the cruising range carefully and report extensions in advance. Coastal waters, the Baltic and the North Sea are three different entries with three different risks.
On boats with an inboard diesel the fuel system is the point where failures begin. The engine damage itself is a matter of maintenance; the consequences of an accident without propulsion are covered. A second set of filters on board and a checked tank content are the cheapest insurance there is.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Does the policy cover the Baltic?
If it is agreed as the cruising range, yes. Extensions are possible at any time, but not retroactively.
Is an engine failure insured?
The failure itself is not; it counts as maintenance. Damage from an accident following a failure is covered under full hull cover.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for motorboats and sports boats is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Cruising range
The agreed cruising range is stated in the policy and can be extended at any time.

Series by Saga, with value and cover
Saga 20 / 24 is a motorboat from Saga (Norway), built from 1985 to 2010, and today changes hands at between €18,000 and €65,000.
Saga 265 / 315 is a motor yacht from Saga (Norway), built from 1995 to 2020, and today changes hands at between €45,000 and €175,000.
Saga 26 HT / 27 AK / 27 AC is a motor yacht from Saga (Norway), built from 1985 to 2010, and today changes hands at between €22,000 and €72,000.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
