Sea Ray; cover, cost and conditions

Sea Ray of Knoxville, Tennessee belongs to the Brunswick group and is the largest manufacturer of sports boats in the world. In Germany you mainly come across the Sundancer and the SLX on the waters of Berlin and Brandenburg and on Lake Constance. Almost all models run with a sterndrive or an inboard engine, and that is where the most frequent damage occurs.

On sterndrive boats the drive is the most expensive part. Grounding, rope in the propeller, a blow against driftwood: shaft assembly, gearbox and propeller quickly add up to five-figure bills. Limited hull cover does not help here, as it only knows named perils such as fire, storm and theft. Only full hull cover acts as all-risks cover and bears accident and collision. On a boat of this class, limited hull cover is the wrong place to save money.

With imported Sea Rays a second point is added: papers and proof of value. US models differ from the European ones in equipment and engine power, and the German market value rarely corresponds to the purchase price in the country of origin.
