These custom builds are the interesting case: a trailer built to fit exactly is more expensive than a standard trailer and its value lies in the range where the declaration in the application really counts.
In our boat policy the trailer is included at no extra premium if it is stated in the application. With a custom build you declare the actual purchase value, not a standard price; in the event of theft or total loss what has been declared is replaced. A custom-built trailer for a catamaran can cost a five-figure sum, and this difference from the standard price is only covered if it is stated in the policy.
The practical advantage of a trailer built to fit is the correct support. A boat resting on a trailer that does not fit deforms over the years, and this deformation is a consequence of storage, not an insured event. With multihulls this is particularly relevant because the load has to be distributed over several points. Here the custom build is not a convenience but loss prevention.
