Topcat builds beach catamarans in Germany that are at home on inland lakes and along the coast, built more robustly than pure racing machines and frequently used in sailing schools and clubs. This use in schools is the point that makes the policy different: if a boat is handed over to changing users commercially or in club operation, that is no longer private use. Register it; without registration cover is missing precisely when an inexperienced user causes the damage.
For the private owner, third-party liability is the core. A Topcat sails on lakes where swimmers, surfers and excursion boats are about, and a collision involving personal injury is the most expensive conceivable event. Our boat third-party liability covers this with ten to fifty million euros. Hull insurance is worthwhile above all because of storm damage while laid up and because of theft: beach catamarans stand unprotected, and sails, trapezes and fittings disappear faster than hulls.
As regards the cruising range, the EU inland level is sufficient for most Topcat owners. Anyone sailing to the North Sea or the Baltic needs the corresponding extension; it is inexpensive and can be included for a single season. The equipment requirement is important: life jackets for everyone on board belong on a beach catamaran too, and on inland lakes each area has its own regulations on sailing area and times.

Can I insure my Topcat for club operation?
Yes, but only as registered commercial or club use. Changing users are a different risk from use by the owner and are not included in the private policy.
Is the EU inland area sufficient?
For inland lakes yes. For the North Sea and the Baltic you need the extension; it can also be included for a single season.
