Finn-Dinghy; cover, cost and conditions
The Finn is the Olympic singlehanded dinghy from 1952 to 2020 and one of the technically most demanding boat classes there is, with a highly developed rig, a flexible mast and a fleet ranging from wooden boats of the sixties to current carbon rigs. On a Finn the mast is the most expensive single item and the most frequent claims position.
A carbon mast on a Finn costs a considerable share of the boat's value, and mast breakage is nothing unusual in this class, as the rig is deliberately sailed at the limit. Under full hull cover mast breakage is covered, provided it is not due to material wear. With carbon this boundary is often clear in practice: a break in a gust is an insured event, a break caused by pre-existing delamination is not. Have the mast checked regularly.
For a Finn, races are the rule rather than the exception, and races require express inclusion. Also factor in transport: Finn sailors travel right across Europe to regattas, and mast and hull suffer damage on the trailer if they are not secured as specified. Road transport using suitable means is included in the hull insurance.

Series by Finn-Dinghy, with value and cover
Finn-Dinghy Olympia-Ausführung is a sailing dinghy from Finn-Dinghy, built since 2000, and today changes hands at between €14,000 and €32,000.
Finn-Dinghy wood (classic) is a sailing dinghy from Finn-Dinghy, built from 1949 to 1990, and today changes hands at between €2,000 and €9,000.
Finn-Dinghy GFK und Carbon is a sailing dinghy from Finn-Dinghy, built since 1990, and today changes hands at between €8,000 and €25,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repairs are predictable. Still, set the value at replacement cost, including sails, rigging or gear you bought later.
Dinghies are mostly trailed and stored ashore, and that is where most damage happens: rigging, strapping down and winter storage.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
