Jeanneau; cover, cost and conditions
Jeanneau has been building sailing and motor boats in Les Herbiers since the fifties and today belongs to Groupe Beneteau. The programme ranges from the Cap Camarat console boat through the Merry Fisher cabin boats to the Sun Odyssey cruising yacht, in insurance terms three very different worlds: with the outboard boats the engine output counts, with the sailing yachts the sail area, with the NC models the value.
Anyone running a Merry Fisher or Cap Camarat with an outboard should record the engine in the policy by name and serial number. The theft of outboard engines is a real risk in North Sea and Baltic harbours, and without a recorded engine the hull insurance only covers the hull. With us there is a ten percent discount on the hull insurance if a GPS or Bluetooth tracker is fitted; make sure the device has an emergency power supply, because experienced thieves look for the tracking equipment and disconnect it.
For Sun Odyssey yachts in the Mediterranean the cruising range is the point where things go wrong. Anyone who moves the yacht from France to Croatia or spends a season in Greece leaves the agreed area. The extension is one phone call, and it does not apply retrospectively. Our third-party liability meets the compulsory covers of the Mediterranean countries, and the international certificate of insurance is held in your customer account.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is the outboard on my Merry Fisher included in the cover?
In full hull cover yes, including theft of parts, but it has to be stated in the policy. Note down the manufacturer, the output and the serial number; without these details only the hull is covered in the event of a claim.
Does my policy also apply if I leave the yacht in Croatia?
Only if the area is stated in the policy. A permanent berth abroad is possible, but it has to be agreed; report the change beforehand, not after the first claim.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
