JETSURF (MSR Engines); cover, cost and conditions
JETSURF builds motorised surfboards in the Czech Republic with a two-stroke engine or electric drive, machines of around thirty kilograms that reach more than sixty kilometres per hour. In legal terms they are watercraft in Germany, with all that this entails: registration marking is compulsory from 3 hp, which affects practically every board, and a licence is required on inland waters from 15 hp, on the Rhine already from 5 hp.
Restrictions on use are the point where most buyers are caught out. In Bavaria and on Lake Constance operation is prohibited, on many inland lakes it is permitted only in designated areas, and in Austria the federal states set their own rules. The policy covers riding within the agreed cruising range, but it does not replace a permit. Check the waters before you buy, not after the first inspection.
For hull insurance the engine is the critical point. A two-stroke in a board runs under full load in salty water, and water entering the intake area is the classic damage. Operating damage and the consequences of improper maintenance are not covered; covered are fire, theft, collision, storm damage and loss on open water. With a machine of this size, theft is the most likely case, as it fits into any car boot.

Licence
Inland from 15 hp (11.03 kW); on the Rhine already from 5 hp.
Registration
Registration from 3 hp (about 2.21 kW); which covers nearly every board.
Waters
Not permitted in Bavaria or on Lake Constance; in Austria regulated region by region.
Equipment
Helmet, impact vest, leash; charge and carry the battery only in an intact case.
Cruising range
Stay within sight of shore and keep enough charge for the way back.
Weather
Offshore wind is the main risk; from Beaufort 4 a battery failure means drifting out.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On jetboards and eFoils the battery is the point: a fire is covered, a loss of capacity over the years is wear.
