Smartliner; cover, cost and conditions
Smartliner is a brand of GRP fishing and console boats between five and six metres in the entry-level segment, boats that are sold as a package with engine and trailer and that in Germany are used above all on inland waters and on the Baltic Sea. The package is practical in insurance terms: boat, engine and trailer have one invoice, and proof of value is beyond dispute.
Even so, state all three separately in the application: the boat with its value, the engine with its number, the trailer with its payload and chassis number. The trailer is included at no extra premium if it is stated. In the event of the whole rig being stolen from a car park, the most frequent case with trailerable boats, this list determines what is replaced.
For operation the following applies: below 15 hp no licence is needed, from 3 hp there is a marking requirement. With engines of around 60 to 100 hp, as is usual on the larger Smartliners, the sports boat licence is mandatory, sea or inland depending on the waters. Third-party liability covers personal injury, property damage and financial loss with ten to fifty million euros; on a boat that goes fast and travels in coastal waters, that is the core.

Smartliner 21 / Cuddy is a motorboat from Smartliner (PL/DE), built since 2012, and today changes hands at between €22,000 and €68,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
