Starcraft has been building in Indiana since 1903 and was for a long time the best known aluminium yard in the USA. That is exactly the difference in insurance terms: an aluminium hull does not rust, but it corrodes galvanically as soon as different metals meet in the water. Check the sacrificial anodes every year, because a plate corroded through is wear and tear and is not a claim under any hull insurance.
The second point concerns repairs. Aluminium can be welded and GRP can be laminated, but not every yard does both. In the event of collision damage it is the availability of a workshop that decides how long the boat stands still, not the insurance. We pay for the professional repair without tying you to a particular workshop, and you choose the business yourself.
Many Starcraft boats in service are forty years old and older. For these boats the agreed value is the right answer, because otherwise a surveyor writes the current market value down to a few thousand euros, while a comparable boat costs considerably more on the market. Keep photographs of the condition and receipts for engine replacements ready, because in the event of a claim they are half the battle.

Is corrosion damage to the aluminium hull covered?
Gradual corrosion is wear and tear and is not insured. Covered are sudden events, for example a leak after a collision or grounding. Checking the anodes every year is the best protection.
Is full hull cover worthwhile on a forty year old boat?
If the replacement value is above about five thousand euros, usually yes. Agree an agreed value so that the current market value is not used in the event of a total loss.
