Worth knowing
Y Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Y Yachts builds sailing yachts between 20 and 30 metres in carbon sandwich in Greifswald, pared-down yachts with the claim of being quiet and fast under sail. They are semi-custom builds with sums insured in the millions, beyond the 2.5 million euros that the calculator underwrites.
With us carbon is insurable with a surcharge; the reason is the repair, which requires vacuum technology, post-curing and specialist yards. With yachts of this size the underwriting is handled personally: cruising range, crew liability, charter operation, deductible structure and the valuation of the individual fit-out are clarified case by case. Call us, including for a review of an existing contract.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What makes carbon yachts special in insurance?
The repair, since damage to carbon is structural work involving vacuum technology and post-curing. That is why there is a material surcharge, and the agreed value is particularly important.

Series by Y Yachts, with value and cover
Y9 / Y9 Custom is a sailing yacht from Y Yachts (Germany), built since 2020, and today changes hands at between €4,200,000 and €7,500,000.
Y6 is a sailing yacht from Y Yachts (Germany), built since 2022, and today changes hands at between €1,900,000 and €3,200,000.
Y7 / Y8 is a sailing yacht from Y Yachts (Germany), built since 2018, and today changes hands at between €4,500,000 and €9,500,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
