Worth knowing
Abco Industries Ltd; cover, cost and conditions
Nine Abco models are on record, built since 2005: seven motor boats and two motor yachts. The line is purpose driven: the Abco 16 Skiff, 18 Skiff and 18 Skiff CC, the 20 CC, the 23 Utility, the 26 Fishing Boat, the 31 Service Boat and the 36 Barge and 36 Single Lobster. Lengths run from 4.85 to 10.97 metres.
Intended use is the key point when insuring an Abco. For work, service and fishing boats the application should state whether the boat is used privately or commercially, because the scope of cover follows from it. The small Skiff models up to around 5.5 metres are trailerable, so liability is the basis and transport can be included. For the larger boats up to eleven metres value and cruising area belong in the application in exact form.
NAMMERT insures Abco boats regardless of year of build and place of purchase, whether bought at home or imported. From the 16 Skiff to the 36 Barge the whole line can be covered. The premium is worked out in the online calculator in five minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Does it matter whether an Abco 31 Service Boat is used commercially?
Yes. For work and service boats the use must be stated in the application, because private and commercial operation are covered differently.
How is an Abco 16 Skiff insured?
At 4.85 metres it is trailerable. Liability forms the basis and trailer transport can be added to the hull cover.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
