Worth knowing
Aquila USA; cover, cost and conditions
Aquila USA is listed with 8 models, all power catamarans. The range covers the Aquila 32, 36, 38, 44, 48, 50 Y, 54 and 70. Build years run since 2012, lengths from 9.9 to 21.3 m.
Power catamarans are widespread in the charter world, and that is the first point for insurance: if the boat is chartered out, that is commercial use with liability towards guests, changing skippers and higher operating hours. It belongs explicitly in the policy. The second point is the beam: it calls for special berths and makes craning and slipping more involved.
NAMMERT insures Aquila catamarans regardless of build year and place of purchase, imports included. For boats in the Caribbean or the Mediterranean the cruising area should cover the waters actually used, and for Caribbean boats the hurricane season should also be considered. You can calculate the premium for liability and hull cover in the online calculator in about 5 minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
My catamaran is in charter. What do I need to consider?
Charter is commercial use and must be stated in the policy. Liability towards guests, changing skippers and more operating hours are added. Without that agreement the basis is missing after a loss.
Is a boat in the Caribbean insured during hurricane season?
That depends on the agreement. Many contracts set special conditions or berth requirements for the storm season. Tell us where the boat lies and we will settle that in advance.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
