Worth knowing
Back Cove Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Back Cove Yachts is recorded with ten models, all of them motor yachts. The range begins with the Back Cove 30 at 9.8 m and continues through the 32, 33, 34 and 34 O to the 37 at 12.2 m and the Downeast 37 at just under 13 m. Above them stand the Back Cove 372 at 12.8 m, the 39 O at 13.1 m and the 41 at 14.2 m. Recorded production runs from 2006 into the current model years.
Back Cove yachts sit in the 10 to 14 m band and are used mainly for coastal cruising. For the policy that means stating cruising area and berth accurately, together with a declared value that includes engine, electronics and equipment. On the early years from 2006, an agreed value is the clearer route, particularly where the engine or the navigation system has been renewed. Anyone laying the yacht up ashore over winter should have craning and storage in the hull cover.
NAMMERT insures Back Cove Yachts regardless of year of build and regardless of whether the yacht was imported or bought in Europe. A berth on the North Sea or Baltic can be covered just as readily as one in the Mediterranean. The premium is calculated in the online quote tool in about five minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can an imported Back Cove 37 be insured in Europe?
Yes. The place of purchase is irrelevant; what counts is value, year of build and the cruising area where the yacht will be used.
What applies during winter storage?
Craning, transport to the storage yard and the period ashore can be included in the hull cover. On yachts around 12 m this is the usual route.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
