Worth knowing
Blue-Water Yachts (AUS); cover, cost and conditions
From the programme we only have the sailing yacht Spencer 30 on file, built from 1972 to 1982. No further ranges are recorded. With a sailing yacht the sail area takes the place of engine power when the premium is calculated, together with the type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range.
Production lies decades in the past, and a boat of this range changes hands second-hand today. We insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners. The agreed value under full hull cover records the agreed sum, a deduction for depreciation ("new for old") does not apply, and in the Premium tariff there is no age limit.
Anyone sailing club races with such a yacht has them included from the Basis-Plus tariff onwards. Races with ranking status are declared when taking out the policy. Third-party liability remains the basis in every case, with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros in three tariff levels.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How is a sailing yacht without a powerful engine rated?
Instead of engine power the sail area counts. Together with the type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range this produces the premium. The brand of the boat plays no role in this.
Are club races covered?
Club races are included from the Basis-Plus tariff onwards. Report races with ranking status when taking out the policy so that cover is clearly settled there too.

Series by Blue-Water Yachts (AUS), build years and cover
Spencer 30 is a sailing yacht from Blue-Water Yachts (AUS), built from 1972 to 1982.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
