Worth knowing
Butler Mouldings; cover, cost and conditions
Four model ranges carry the name Achilles: the Achilles 24 as a sailing boat and the sailing yachts Achilles 7m, Achilles 840 and Achilles 9. The years of construction lie between 1967 and 1987, and production has ended. That is of no consequence for the insurance, because year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners play no part with us.
On a sailing yacht the sail area takes the place of the engine output. Together with the type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range it produces the premium, while the brand name stays out of it. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards, and races with ranking status are reported when you take out the policy.
Full hull cover remains possible even for yachts from the seventies: it works with an agreed value, pays compensation with no deduction for depreciation (new for old) and has no age limit in the Premium tariff.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How does the sail area of an Achilles 9 feed into the premium?
On sailing boats the sail area replaces the engine output as the calculation figure. Added to this are the type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range. The brand is not used for the premium.
Is there an age limit in hull insurance for a yacht from 1972?
In the Premium tariff full hull cover applies with no age limit. Compensation is paid on the basis of the agreed value and with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), regardless of the boat's year of construction.

Series by Butler Mouldings, build years and cover
Achilles 840 is a sailing yacht from Butler Mouldings, built from 1975 to 1987.
Achilles 9 is a sailing yacht from Butler Mouldings, built from 1972 to 1984.
Achilles 24 is a sailing boat from Butler Mouldings, built from 1967 to 1984.
Achilles 7m is a sailing yacht from Butler Mouldings, built from 1972 to 1978.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
