Worth knowing
Clyde Classics Ltd.; cover, cost and conditions
Clyde Classics is listed with 10 models, 8 sailing yachts and 2 open sailing boats. The range included the Cumbrae 25, 30 and 33, the North Channel Cutter 25, 30 and 33, the Caledonia 39, the Tarbert Yawl 34 and the Clyde 6 Rater and Clyde 8 Metre. Recorded build years run from 1993 to 2000, lengths from 7.5 to 12 m.
These yachts take up traditional Scottish hull forms: cutter and yawl rigs, long keels, classic lines. For insurance the rig is the decisive point, because special rigs with wooden spars and bespoke fittings are more expensive to replace than a standard mast. The sum insured should reflect that.
NAMMERT insures Clyde Classics boats regardless of build year and of where they were bought. As enthusiasts' craft their value is often above the depreciation table, so an agreed fixed value with a survey is the right route. You can calculate the premium for liability and hull cover in the online calculator in about 5 minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is a special rig covered?
Yes, rig and sails are part of the boat. What matters is that the sum insured allows for the higher cost of wooden spars and bespoke fittings, otherwise it covers only part of the replacement.
What is a yawl?
A rig with an additional small mast aft of the rudder post. It spreads the sail area over several sails. For the premium, length, value and cruising area still count, but the rig affects the sum insured.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
