Worth knowing
Hartz; cover, cost and conditions
Two model ranges are recorded under Hartz: the sailing yacht Alk from the years 1979 to 1989 and the cabin catamaran Mollymauk from 1982 to 1989. A manageable programme is no obstacle for the insurance, because with us small production runs and home-built boats can be insured just as much as large series boats.
For boats for which there is no longer any ongoing model updating and no price lists, the agreed value is the decisive point. It is settled when the policy is taken out and paid out in the event of a claim with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), in the Premium tariff with no age limit and regardless of the place of purchase and previous owners.
The sailing yacht and the cabin catamaran are classified via the sail area, along with the type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards. Third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros forms the basis of the policy in every tariff level.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can boats from small production be insured?
Yes. With us, small production runs and home-built boats can be insured. The basis is the type of boat, length, year of construction, value and cruising range, not the number of units built or the name of the yard.
Is a cabin catamaran treated differently from a sailing yacht?
Both are classified via the type of boat, value, year of construction, sail area and cruising range. In both cases the cover comprises third-party liability, limited hull cover and full hull cover with an agreed value.

Series by Hartz, build years and cover
Alk is a sailing yacht from Hartz, built from 1979 to 1989.
Mollymauk is a cabin catamaran from Hartz, built from 1982 to 1989.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
