Worth knowing
Hovercraft doo; cover, cost and conditions
On record are two cabin catamarans, the Electricat 450 and the Electricat Big Six, both from 2018 to the present day, as well as the SEAtrailer inflatable boat from the years 2016 to 2021. A programme made up of only a few ranges is no obstacle for us, because small production runs and home-built boats can be insured.
What counts for the premium is the type of boat, the value, the build year, the engine output or sail area, and the cruising range. The brand plays no part. Third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros forms the basis, graded into Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium.
An inflatable boat without an engine and a cabin catamaran are used differently, but the framework remains the same: full hull cover with an agreed value, settlement with no deduction for depreciation (new for old) and, in the Premium tariff, with no age limit. Cover also applies in winter storage, during craning and during launching.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can boats from small-scale production be covered?
Yes. Small production runs and home-built boats can be insured. Even where only a few model ranges are on record for a yard, the premium is based solely on the data of the boat.
Which features determine the premium?
The type of boat, the value, the build year, the engine output or sail area, and the cruising range. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros the policy can be taken out online.

Series by Hovercraft doo, build years and cover
Hovercraft Electricat 450 is a cabin catamaran from Hovercraft doo, built since 2018.
Hovercraft Electricat Big Six is a cabin catamaran from Hovercraft doo, built since 2018.
SEAtrailer is an inflatable without engine from Hovercraft doo, built from 2016 to 2021.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
Even without an engine the rule holds: a tear from impact or vandalism is covered, UV ageing is wear.
