Worth knowing
KL Composites; cover, cost and conditions
KL Composites is on record with one model range, the Kat 28 cabin catamaran from the years 1984 to 1991. No further models are available. These boats change hands on the second-hand market today, and we insure regardless of the boat's year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners.
A catamaran needs more space during craning and in winter storage than a monohull. Our cover applies in winter storage, during craning, during launching and in transit. There, limited hull cover bears fire, storm, lightning strike, theft of the whole boat and damage during storage.
In full hull cover an agreed value applies, compensation is paid with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. Collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts including the outboard are added. The premium follows value, year of construction, sail area and cruising range.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is damage during the craning operation covered?
Yes. Cover applies during craning, during launching, in winter storage and in transit. That also applies to boats whose production lies decades in the past.
What applies to a catamaran that has changed owners several times?
We insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners. What is decisive is today's value, which we record in the contract as an agreed value.

Series by KL Composites, build years and cover
Kat 28 is a cabin catamaran from KL Composites, built from 1984 to 1991.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
