Worth knowing
McMillan; cover, cost and conditions
For the McMillan yard the sailing yacht Kha-Mo is on file with construction years from 1990 to 1997. For a sailing yacht we do not calculate with engine power but with the sail area. Together with the type of boat, the value, the year of construction and the cruising range it goes into the premium; the brand has no influence.
The name of the yard changes nothing in the rating, whether many or few models were built under it. Small series and home-built boats can be insured with us just like production boats, and we insure regardless of the year of construction, the place of purchase and previous owners of the boat.
From the Basis-Plus tariff level upwards club races are included; races with scoring status you declare when taking out the policy. Full hull cover works with an agreed value, pays with no deduction for depreciation (new for old) and applies in the Premium tariff with no age limit. The basis is third-party liability with 10 to 50 million euros.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How is the sail area taken into account in the policy?
On sailing boats it takes the place of engine power and, together with the type of boat, the value, the year of construction and the cruising range, determines the premium. The brand does not enter into the calculation.
Are club races included in the cover?
Club races are included from the Basis-Plus level upwards. Races with scoring status you declare when taking out the policy so that they are in the contract from the start.

Series by McMillan, build years and cover
Kha-Mo is a sailing yacht from McMillan, built from 1990 to 1997.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
