Naviga MBS Oy; cover, cost and conditions
Anyone crossing borders has to be able to prove their cover. For Naviga MBS four ranges are on record, the motor yachts Naviga 8 S and 10 S as well as the motorboats Naviga 630 and Finn Fisherman 1080. We supply the international certificate of insurance automatically in ten languages, with no separate application.
Two of the ranges have run since 1994 to the present day; the others were added in 2002 and 2004. This continuity means that young as well as older boats are in circulation. For both, the agreed value applies with indemnity with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), in the Premium tariff with no age limit in full hull cover.
The cruising range, the value, the year of construction, the type of boat and the engine output determine the premium, never the brand. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros you take out the policy online; above that we assess the individual case. A boat trailer is included at no extra premium, and winter storage is covered.

Do I receive proof for foreign harbours?
Yes, the international certificate of insurance is issued automatically in ten languages. You do not need to apply for it separately; it is part of the contract.
Are boats from the nineties treated equally?
Yes. We insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners. The agreed value fixes the value, in the Premium tariff with no age limit in full hull cover.

Licence
A powerboat licence (inland or coastal) is required from 15 hp (11.03 kW).
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; for trips abroad carry the boat certificate or flag document.
Waters
Inland, coastal and abroad; plan fairways, bridge clearances, draught and tides.
Equipment
Lifesaving gear, fire extinguisher, anchor, signalling equipment and correct navigation lights.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
