Worth knowing
Pogo Structures; cover, cost and conditions
In Brittany, Pogo builds fast cruising yachts between 9 and 14 metres in the design language of the Mini Transat boats: a wide stern, a swing keel or lifting keel and very light hulls. These are boats built for speed, in which short-handed sailing over long distances is the normal case.
Three points are relevant for insurance: the light hull with its sandwich and carbon content brings a material surcharge, the swing keel is moving mechanics with its own risk of damage, and long-distance races require an express agreement. If you are planning a transatlantic passage, you should talk to us beforehand; the cruising range, salvage cover and the deductible then need to be clarified individually.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can an Atlantic crossing with a racing character be insured?
With an express agreement and the worldwide cruising range, yes. Please go through a transatlantic passage with us beforehand, as it differs fundamentally from coastal sailing.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
