Worth knowing
Y.B.M.; cover, cost and conditions
Two ranges are on record, both with model years from 1997 to 2005: the sailing yacht Eagle 80 and the motor yacht Timeless 90. Two types of boat thus stand side by side, and the premium follows different factors in each case, the sail area for the one and the engine output for the other.
The same basis applies to both: third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros in the levels Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium. Hull cover is added as limited hull cover or as full hull cover with an agreed value. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros the policy can be taken out online.
If the Eagle 80 starts in club races, that is included from Basis-Plus upwards; races with ranking status are declared when you take out the policy.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Do you calculate sailing yachts and motor yachts differently?
Yes. For sailing yachts the sail area goes into the premium, for motor yachts the engine output. Type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range count for both, the brand for neither.
Are races with ranking status included?
They have to be declared when the policy is taken out. Club races, by contrast, are part of the cover from the Basis-Plus tariff level upwards without any further notification.

Series by Y.B.M., build years and cover
Eagle 80 is a sailing yacht from Y.B.M., built from 1997 to 2005.
Timeless 90 is a motor yacht from Y.B.M., built from 1997 to 2005.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
