Worth knowing
Fleming; cover, cost and conditions
Fleming builds pilothouse trawlers from seventeen to twenty-four metres, classic cruising vessels for long legs at moderate speed. These vessels hold their value unusually well, and from that follows a recommendation: review the sum insured every few years. On a Fleming, a sum agreed ten years ago is often below the market value today.
The trawler is a cruising vessel, not a berth-bound boat. The 55 and 58 model ranges have been in production since 1990 and the 65 and 78 since 2000, and these vessels are under way for decades. For the policy that means: the cruising range must reflect the actual use, and an extension before the season is cheaper than a discussion after a loss.
A vessel of this size carries equipment that quickly adds up to a five-figure sum: stabilisers, generator, navigation, tender with davit. All of that belongs in the schedule attached to the policy. Whatever is not listed there is, in case of doubt, not covered.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How often should I review the sum insured on a Fleming?
Every three to five years. On trawlers that hold their value, a sum agreed once otherwise falls below the replacement value, and in a total loss precisely that difference is missing.
Are stabilisers and the generator covered?
Yes, as permanently installed equipment, provided they are listed in the schedule attached to the policy. State the type and the value, and the cover is unambiguous.

What matters for motor yachts is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Series by Fleming, with value and cover
Fleming 55 / 58 is a motor yacht from Fleming (the USA), built since 1990, and today changes hands at between €690,000 and €1,900,000.
Fleming 65 / 78 is a motor yacht from Fleming (the USA), built since 2000, and today changes hands at between €1,900,000 and €4,800,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
