How the place works
The gulf is shallow and funnel shaped, and together that makes the storm surge the real danger here: a cyclone pushes the water into the tip of the funnel and levels rise by several metres. The season has two peaks, in spring and from October to December.

For yachts this is less about the passage than about the berth: the region's harbours are not built for storm surge, and a boat there is lost in a direct hit.
