How the place works
In summer the northerly accelerates around the headland and adds two forces, often with no change in the forecast. The acceleration reaches several miles offshore, and behind it, on the Algarve coast, it is calm again.
What breaks there
Anyone rounding the cape under full sail has too much canvas and little time immediately afterwards. A tear in the main, a broken vang, the helm overpowered: the damage happens in the first twenty minutes after the corner.
