How the place works
From December to April the sea is largely covered with ice, making it the southernmost sea in the northern hemisphere that freezes regularly. Even in summer it is cold, foggy and stormy, and harbours for yachts barely exist.
What breaks there
Ice pressure and drift ice in winter, fog and gales in summer. For yachts this sea is not a cruising ground but a stretch encountered on the way to the Northeast Passage.
