Masuria
More than a hundred lakes are linked by canals and locks, the largest being Śniardwy and Mamry. On the big open surfaces a short steep sea builds quickly, and shelter is not always within reach. Grounding on unmarked shoals is common, as is damage while berthing in the crowded summer harbours.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season is short, May to September, but berths are inexpensive. Winter is hard: the lakes freeze regularly and ashore storage with complete draining is the norm. A boat wintering afloat here is a risk most insurers will only carry by express agreement.
