How the place works
The Gulf of Guinea has for years counted among the sea areas with the most attacks worldwide, and they are mostly directed at commercial shipping off the Nigerian coast. For yachts there is no usual route here and no infrastructure.
What breaks there
This is about attack and kidnapping, not material damage. Meteorologically the area is unremarkable, which does not make it better: this danger is not one you see on the barometer.
What this means for your policy
Piracy is excluded, and cover is not available in the yacht market. Anyone heading from Europe to South Africa goes via the Canaries, Cape Verde and Brazil, not along this coast.
