How the place works
The Red Sea is a long beat against the northerly, with reefs close to the route and few harbours to divert to. At the southern exit, the Bab al-Mandab strait, dense traffic and the proximity of the Yemeni coast come together.
What breaks there
Reef contact on a night passage is the most common material loss, because the reefs are steep and poorly charted. At the southern exit the security risk is added, which shifts with the situation ashore.
