How the place works
The deep water port and its anchorage bring very large units into a limited area, and the tidal stream sets across the channel. A container ship bound for the JadeWeserPort needs the channel; a yacht can only cross it, not linger in it.
What breaks there
Cases arise when crossing with too little in hand and when anchoring on or beside the roads. Add suction and swell pressing boats against each other at the pontoons in the outer harbour.
What this means for your policy
As everywhere with commercial shipping, the liability limit decides. Anyone sailing here regularly should check that their limit matches what moves in that channel, not what their own boat is worth.
