How the place works
In the gaps between the islands an ebbing tide meets an onshore wind, and over the bar a short, breaking sea stands up. The same spot is harmless two hours later: the area forgives no mistake in timing, but almost any correct one.
What breaks there
What happens here happens fast: water over the deck, loss of steering in the surf, engine failure from ingested sand. The boat often gets off only with outside help, and salvage in a tidal inlet is a cost block of its own.
