How the place works
The canal is a narrow rock gorge of a good six kilometres with convoy traffic and waiting times, and the walls throw back every wash. In the Gulf of Patras ahead of it a short sea builds in a westerly, and the traffic from the Ionian gathers before the entrance.
What breaks there
Little happens in the canal itself, but plenty before and after: berthing at the waiting place, running too close in convoy, contact with the rock wall in gusts from above. The damage is to topsides, guardrails and fittings.
