How the place works
The Labrador Current carries ice south all year, in spring icebergs from the Greenland glaciers, in winter sea ice as well. The water temperature is just above freezing, and the harbours are far apart.
What breaks there
An iceberg shows on radar, its growler often does not, and that is enough for a hole at the waterline. At this water temperature, flooding is not material damage but an emergency for the crew.
What this means for your policy
Ice contact is excluded as a matter of principle in many sets of conditions. Anyone planning the northern route to Greenland or via Iceland needs an express agreement, and not every provider offers one.
