How the place works

Over the Grand Banks the cold Labrador Current meets the warm Gulf Stream, producing the most persistent fog in the North Atlantic. Add fishing, oil rigs and, in spring, icebergs drifting south with the Labrador Current.

What breaks there

An iceberg shows on radar; the growler broken off it often does not, and that is enough for a hole. In fog, collision with fishing vessels lying on station and hard to make out is added.

What this means for your policy

For the North Atlantic route it is worth checking whether ice contact is excluded. Many sets of conditions exclude ice as a matter of principle, and then the classic northern route to Europe is not covered without a special agreement.
