Aeolian Islands
Around Lipari, Vulcano and Stromboli the bottom falls away steeply; good holding is rare and often in depths that demand a lot of chain. The wind accelerates between the islands, and the Strait of Messina to the south adds current. Damage mostly happens when boats drag at night in a rising wind.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from May to September, berths are in the upper price band and scarce; many boats lie on moorings. Boats winter afloat, usually in Milazzo or on Sicily. If you take a mooring, check its condition yourself rather than trusting the operator.
